What are Cosmeceuticals?

Cosmeceuticals are the synergy of standard cosmetics and prescription pharmaceuticals.

Cosmeceuticals are applied topically to the skin like makeup or lotion. Unlike department store cosmetics, however, cosmeceuticals contain many additional ingredients that work to alter the biological function of skin.

Using cosmeceuticals helps to improve the appearance of your skin by delivering nutrients that are essential for promoting healthy skin cells.

What are Retinoids?
Retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A which is an essential co-factor in cellular development. These derivatives are necessary for proper growth, and provide the cellular environment needed for maintaining integrity of mucosal and epithelial surfaces (such as those found on the surface of your skin and lips).

A deficiency in vitamin A can lead to the development of skin follicular hyperkeratosis (also known as phrynoderma).

In your skin, vitamin A functions as both an antioxidant and a potent activator of several genes and proteins. As an antioxidant, vitamin A protects cells from oxidative damage. This protection is accomplished by working to scavenge peroxyl radicals, and removing single state oxygen at the molecular level.

Cosmeceuticals containing vitamin A are also able to activate specific gene sequences by entering the cell nucleus and exerting effects similar to physiologic hormones. Retinoic acid receptors on the surface of skin cells bind the retinoid derivatives which in turn activate important growth factors inside skin cells—promoting cell renewal and overall skin rejuvenation.

Vitamin A activates epidermal thickening (thickening your skin), decreases epidermal atrophy, generates new blood vessels, and increases the creation of new skin collagen. These benefits translate into diminished appearance of wrinkles, sun spots, skin laxity, and provide a more youthful rejuvenated appearance to your skin.

What are Glycolic Acids ?

What does Vitamin C do for Skin?
Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is an essential cofactor for all cellular life.
